In Step with the Holy Spirit

As we move through this series on the fruit of the Spirit, we begin with love because it is the soil in which everything else grows. Joy, peace, patience, and the rest flow naturally from a life rooted in Christ’s love.

Last Sunday, we launched our brand-new series for this year, “In Step with the Holy Spirit.” This series is rooted in our 2025 theme, “Built Up,” and we are diving deep into what it truly means to walk daily in alignment with the Spirit of God.

Pastor Geofrey Baluku opened the series by teaching on the very first fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22–23: Love.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” – Galatians 5:22–23

Why Start with Love?

Love is not just one fruit among many — it is the foundation for them all. In fact, without love, the other fruits lose their meaning. Pastor Jeff reminded us of Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 13:1–8: even the most powerful gifts and eloquent words mean nothing if they are not rooted in love.

Remaining Connected to the Vine

From John 15:4–5, we learned that we can’t produce true love on our own. Jesus said, “Remain in me, as I also remain in you… apart from me you can do nothing.” The kind of love God calls us to is not self-made; it is Spirit-grown.

Love as Our Identity

Jesus also gave us this command in John 13:34–35:

“Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Love is the mark of a true disciple. It’s not just in what we say, but in how we treat one another, how we forgive, and how we serve.

Walking Forward Together

As we move through this series on the fruit of the Spirit, we begin with love because it is the soil in which everything else grows. Joy, peace, patience, and the rest flow naturally from a life rooted in Christ’s love.

This week, let’s ask ourselves:

  • How can I walk in step with the Spirit by showing love?
  • Who around me needs to experience Christ’s love through my actions?
  • Am I staying connected to the Vine so that His love can flow freely through me?

May we continue to be built up in love as we walk in step with the Holy Spirit.
